Rider and Equine Soft Tissue Therapy
Combining both her human and equine knowledge, Dee is a specialist in soft tissue therapy for both the horse and the rider. From her background as a competitive rider herself and in international rugby in which it is compulsory for premiership players to have daily sports massage for ‘maintenance’, Dee feels this is the keyword for all horses and riders. Prevention is always better than cure and with a horses body weight being comprised of 60% muscle and a riders tremendous impact on that horse, particularly at international level, maintenance is key! Dee also works with farriers, arena contractors and course designers on a regular basis.
Rider and Equine Specific Programme of Exercises
Equestrian sport is completely unique as it requires two athletes to work as one. Dee says to all of her riders ‘it is my job to release and your job to strengthen’, as it is vital that riders realise the profound influence they have on their horses. Through working with both athletes, Dee will provide Ben with information on both athletes as she learns the weaknesses and strengths of each and Ben can therefore work on the strengthening and conditioning component for the rider. Providing bespoke programmes for each rider, suing their schedules and facilities.
Pegasus Class IV Laser
Often an integral part of Dee’s treatment. A medical grade laser, and something that has been used for generations both in and out of human and equine hospitals. The fundamental principles that underpin photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy, as currently understood in the scientific literature, are relatively straightforward. There is consensus that the application of a therapeutic dose of light to impaired or dysfunctional tissue leads to a cellular response mediated by mitochondrial mechanisms that reduce pain and inflammation and speed healing. There are many lasers available on the market, but the pegasus is often used by leading veterinarians and through much testing, Dee found the best results with.
Rider and Equine Biomechanics Sessions
Putting the puzzle together. Looking at both the horse and rider together is key for optimising performance. Ben often views the biomechanics sessions in order to see the rider on the horse and for the pair and the rider to go through their thoughts and findings, enabling everyone to be on the same page.
Deep Oscillation Therapy
Dee is lucky to be one of a few equine soft tissue therapists that have this unique, patented treatment method. Purchased in order to treat some conditions or problems she cannot solely treat with her hands. Its special structure allows you to create biologically effective oscillations in the treated tissue using electrostatic attraction and friction. In contrast to other therapies, these pleasant oscillations have a gentle and deep-acting effect on all tissue components (skin, connective tissue, muscles, blood and lymph vessels). Dee uses this on both horse and rider and the benefits have been incredible.
RockTape – Rider & Equine Kinesiology Taping
Trained for the application to both the human and as one of the first for the horse, Dee uses taping every day with the vast majority of her clients. There are so many ways and reasons to use this tape and it is for that reason it is always seen on the world stage and a favourite with competitors.
Thermal imaging enables Dee to gain further insight on occasions into what she is feeling or seeing.
